Farsightedness

What is Farsightedness?

Farsightedness (a.k.a. hyperopia) occurs when one has difficulty focusing on close objects. Distant objects are seen properly in this condition that occurs when the light that comes into the eye is focused improperly due to a short eyeball or a cornea with not enough curvature.

Common Symptoms
  • Difficulties focusing clearly on close objects or inability to maintain such focus
  • Aching/burning eyes
  • Eye strain
  • Irritation after continuous concentration
  • Exhaustion/headaches following close work

Diagnosis

Farsightedness can be diagnosed during a full optometric exam. A routine vision screening may not reveal the condition.

Treatment

If the case is very minor, you may be able to adapt without treatment. Glasses or contact lenses, which affect how light images pass into the eyes, can also be prescribed to improve vision.

How Can I Save Money on Vision Care?

Proper vision care is vital for both adults and children, yet it is often overlooked because of the cost. You may be able to save a substantial amount of money through an insurance program, such as the vision plans offered through HumanaOne.
